Horizon Residence

Located in the heart of Venice Beach, 230 Horizon Avenue is a ground-up home with architecture and construction by Breakform Design. Sited on an original canal and amongst older homes, the architecture team led a three-year approvals process to replace an existing bungalow on a 2,850 square foot lot.

 

With the vision to create a well-crafted, beautiful living environment, the architecture team looked to the quaint tree-lined street for inspiration. The unique context offered an opportunity to reimagine craftsman shingle homes with contemporary materials, form and function. Capitalizing on the north-facing light, the massing nestles into the site to minimize its massing and maximize privacy while creating a fairly “public” home with big open volumes in the façade with privacy screens in “private” areas. Designed for entertainment, there’s an element of pull and push—movement—throughout the interior space.
